What is Teen Patti?
Whether you’ve ever been to a casino or not, if you’ve gambled with your friends at home, you’ve probably played teen patti. You may call it a mini version of poker, a game which is more popular in casinos. Teen Patti is a popular gambling game in India played with a group of friends on special occasions. Usually, you need some poker chips to play conveniently, else some groups use real cash too. How it’s Played
Usually, there are 3-8 people who play this game, usually with 2-3 decks. As the name suggests, every player plays only with 3 cards in their hand. The objective of the game is to win money out of whatever cards you have. So, how does that work? First, we’ll come to the hierarchy of winning combinations of cards, where again A is of the highest rank, and 2 is of the lowest:
Set of 3 cards of the same rank: A-A-A (any suit)
Suited sequence of 3 cards: J-Q-K (all of spades)
Unsuited sequence of 3 cards: Q-K-A (any suit)
3 suited cards: J-9-4 (all of diamonds)
Pair of 2 cards with: A-A-8 (any suit)
1 high card: A-6-7 (any suit)
Now, when you get your cards, you obviously don’t say anything except whether you would like to play or “fold”. The term “fold” means that you quit because you’re not confident of winning the game. A minimum amount of bet is usually decided by the players. At any given round, when your turn comes, you either add your chip or money to the pool or you decide to fold.
In the end, when there are only 2 players left, one of the players will add money to the pool and ask the opposite player to “show”. Then, whoever actually has the highest combination, as mentioned in the above hierarchy, wins all the money in the pool. However, in case when two players are left and one of the players folds, the other one wins the pool without showing his or her cards. This is the basic trend of how the game works.
